Life and Music

This video is awesome, and it claims it's animated by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, with story and voiceover by Alan Watts.

Philip Glass

While designing, music is an essential part of the creative process. I find it best to choose a genre of music associated with the piece that I am working on. Listening this way allows you to immerse yourself in the culture, ideals, thoughts, and emotions of a certain sect of society. I will be posting a list of music I listen to here shortly, however I wanted to spotlight one composer in particular: Philip Glass

This man is amazing. From his biography, we read that he has composed over 20 operas, 8 symphonies, multiple concertos, soundtracks, and collaborations. This music is exactly what you have always wanted to hear, a combination of unexplored styles and techniques.

My favourite is his opera, Einstein on the Beach. This is not a traditional opera, it is an intense symphonic and rhythmic amalgamation, where each new time you listen, something new can be heard.

He has published a good sampling of his works on his website at: http://www.philipglass.com/music/index.php (Click on Listen/Watch)

Update and Intro

Alot of things have been going on. Here's the scoop-

I recently took a position in Denver, with HouseFront. I'm the marketing Director for the company. We are a Web 2.0 firm, and we do real estate valuation (house values) on our website and through your cell phone- you text any address to 46873 or HOUSE or visit our website- http://www.housefront.com. Give it a try, you'll think its the coolest thing in the world.

I was commuting for a couple weeks from the Springs, but just found a nice place in Capitol Hill. Its an awesome neighborhood... 16th street mall, the fillmore, ogden, paramount, and a bunch of other stuff is within walking distance.

I am still working with the clothing company. We had to get a new supplier, and are working on our sampling. We are starting on our fundraise here soon, so if you know anyone or if you want to invest... :)

I have been thinking about the blog for quite a while, and what topics I wanted to discuss. I think the the postings will be along these following lines:
  • Interesting things/tools I find
  • Design
  • The Fashion/Clothing Industry
  • HouseFront
  • Movies/Music
  • My life
If you don't know me, here's a little more-

- In the business arena, I'm a serial Entrepreneur. I wish I had more time in the day to explore all of my ideas. I enjoy the Marketing field the most, but can function in almost every role in a company (except accounting, ew). In my various roles, I have fulfilled positions at almost every level in a company.

- In the Creative arena, I am a minimalist. I enjoy design (graphic, web, interior), music (playing and listening), architecture, photography, other forms of art, and reading.

So I'm in Denver, and don't really know the area much. Send me a note, if you have any tips. stephenjoos@yahoo.com

National Anthems

I was doing some research on national anthems. It was very scholarly in nature... well, not exactly. I was interested in the National Anthem of Kazakhstan. I do admit this is due to Borat. I thought how awesome a national anthem bragging about exports of potassium, prostitutes, and great industry would be. Sadly, this is not their real anthem.

However, I discovered a hidden jewel. http://www.national-anthems.net

The design of this website is god-awful, but they have the anthems of all the countries along with lyrics. So far Yemen is my favourite.
